The PTC stirring process offers the metal casting markets a
unique and patented technology, reducing some of the most
fundamental problems of the casting industry. These include low
casting yield, shrinkage blowholes, porosity, inclusions,
segregation, coarse dendrites and grain formation and others,
all undesired defects formed during the solidification process.
The PTC stirring process, developed by Plasmatec, uses a plasma
arc to increase casting yield and improve the quality of metal
castings by controlling the solidification process of the liquid
metal.
A special plasma generator produces rotating plasma arc, which
is controlled by a patented electrode. The plasma arc stirs the
metal during the solidification stage, thereby increasing
casting yield and productivity, improving macro and micro
structure and mechanical properties.
The PTC process induces a very efficient stirring and metal flow
during the solidification phase. The liquid metal is constantly
moving as the metal solidifies. These effects result in
increased homogeneity of the solid metal, reduced grain size and
segregation and therefore improved mechanical properties.
Plasmatec has registered and been granted patents worldwide for
the PTC process.
